24 Hour Art Marathon Festival 2008



Eastern Edge's 24 Hour Art Marathon is gearing up again for its 9th year running. A major summer event for the downtown community and a great venue for professional artists, amateurs and young creators, the marathon gives exposure to everyone. Beginning at noon on Saturday, August 16th and continuing until noon on August 17th there will be a multitude of artists, performers, buskers, children's and adult's workshops, film screenings, poetry and an evening of musical performances.

This year, there is the FESTIVAL LAUNCH taking place on August 13th at the Rockhouse on George Street with International Performance artist Annie Sprinkle. Tickets are 20$ in advance or 25$ at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Eastern Edge on 72 Harbour Dr. or at The Ship. EXPLICIT ADULT CONTENT. Must be 19+. Then Thursday, August 14th there will be a 5 hour performance marathon starting at noon and continuing until 5 pm. It will be held in the Eastern Edge Gallery on 72 Harbour Dr. Featuing Deb Jackman, Cyril Butler and NL WWKA. Followed by Artist Talks and Cocktail Hour at 7 pm. (Suggested donation 5$) Artists speaking are: Will Gill, Sara Tilley and Craig Francis Power, Virginia Trieloff, Mark Bennett, Jackie Alcock, Sarah Hillock and Steve Topping.

And Finally! Our Main event the 24 Hour Art Marathon. 24 Hours of art madness starting at noon on Saturday, August 16th and continuing until noon Sunday, August 17th.

Then there is the over 95 artists creating all day and night for the marathon!

Afternoon activities:

12:00-5pm
All day face painting with Derek James of the Wandering Brush.
The Craft Council Clay Studio wheel throwing and pottery making with clay.
Lantern making with The Lantern Festival.
Information and fun booths with the Association for New Canadians, Oxfam Canada, Ocean Net, Tire Pressure Checking, the Aids Committee of NL, The Community Garden Alliance and Katimavik.

WORKSHOPS:

2:00-3:00pm Soft Sculpture with Socks with Jennifer Dyer and Isobel

3:00 -4:30 pm Dance and Movement with Meghan McCabe (meet at the gallery and move to the studio)

A silent auction will take place on the Sunday following the 24 Hours of art making, at the gallery and once again a Live Auction will take place the following Thursday evening with Mack Furlong as auctioneer at The Martins Residence 744 Water Street (20$)
